Applying sun tan cream on a partner can hint at intimacy and tenderness, but I guess when you've been married a long time it can also become perfunctory! I watched this pair across the pool - she glibly passed the bottle across to him - and I had to smile at the little frisson of excitement that crossed his face at this small opportunity of physical contact! Well - that's how I read it anyway!
