During the lockdowns of 2020 the Sky Arts programme ‘Portrait Artist of the Year’ couldn’t be broadcast. So instead on a Sunday morning a celebrity was matched up with one of their artists, and a portrait was painted via zoom, and this was broadcast on Facebook. Thousands of people then watched, and painted along at home – all the while listening to the conversation between the artist and sitter. It was a saving grace for me, along with ‘Portraits for NHS Heroes’ as I had stopped painting. And this also re-awakened my interest in portraiture.
