Portraits

The first time I ever tried to capture a likeness was from a newspaper cutting of 'Dame Maggie Smith', and I was so excited to find my version was recognisably her! But the enormity of the challenge of portraiture held me back for a long time - it was only really during the first Covid lockdown when I had all but given up painting, that Sky Arts ‘Portrait Artist of the Week’ broadcast via Facebook on a Sunday morning, got me back, not just painting, but painting portraits. That along with Tom Croft’s ‘Portraits for NHS Heroes’ were my salvation.
